Netflix Horror Fix 10/7/15

I know it's October and I know you guys are looking for some quality horror films to stream from the comfort of your home this Halloween season. That's why all month long my Netflix Fix posts will be all horror, to help guide you guys through this wonderful time of year. Netflix isn't currently stocked with as much horror as it has been in the past but there are still plenty of titles to keep even the biggest of genre fans satisfied. Below are five films currently streaming that I have not only seen, but that I truly love. Some grab some popcorn and a Reese's pumpkin and let's watch some movies.

1. The Sacrament (2014) Directed By: Ti West

The most recent film from modern horror mastermind Ti West, The Sacrament plays as faux documentary following the religious cult of Eden Parish. A "Vice news" crew decide to document their journey to Eden Parish as they go there in hopes of bringing one of the crew members sister home. This proves o be a much more difficult task than they had assumed when they realize that the man only known as "Father" has a complete hold over everyone in the camp. In true cult fashion, these guys may find it is much harder to leave this camp than it was to enter it. The film is unnerving and frankly scary as hell as this is something that actually happens in our world and Ti West captures it all amazingly. A.J. Bowen stars in this fantastic mockumentary style horror flick.

2. Curse of Chucky (2013) Directed By: Don Mancini

The most recent in the long line of Chucky sequels is actually the best since the original movie. In large part due to the return of the writer of the original story, Don Mancini. Only this time he hasn't only written the film but he also directs it. Going back to what made the original work so well, this movie operates on a much smaller level than most of the sequels and succeeds because of it. If you have ever been a fan of the Chucky franchise then this is a must see as it stands right up there with the original and luckily, it was just added to Netflix streaming this month.

3. Hellraiser (1987) Directed By: Clive Barker

It's not truly Halloween without revisiting some of the classics and what better way to do that than with Clive Barker's horror masterpiece Hellraiser. This blood soaked tale of demon horror still stands as one of the most beautiful displays of what practical effects can do and Barker's twisted story is perfect for the season. The plot is difficult to explain in so little words so I will simply say if you haven't seen this movie before it is a must watch. This went on to spawn countless sequels and made Pinhead one of the most recognizable horror killers for a reason.

4. Witching & Bitching (2013) Directed By: Alex de la Iglesia

I have been eagerly waiting to tell you guys about this film, I watched it around this time last year and fell in love with the film. Playing as a sort of riff off of From Dusk Til Dawn this Spanish film follows a group of thieves as they attempt to pull off an elaborate jewelry heist. When things get turned on their head they find themselves on the run from the law, only to be intercepted by a coven of witches. This film is funny a shell and an absolute blast. I always say we need more scary witches in horror and this film delivers just that. I don't want to hear anyone whining about subtitles, once you turn this flick on you won't even notice because it is simply too much fun.

5. John Dies at the End (2013) Directed By: Don Coscarelli

Last but definitely not least is Don Coscarelli's (Phantasm) most recent film John Dies at the End, an out of this world sci-fi/fantasy/horror flick that begs for cult status. When two burnouts come across a new street drug with sinister side effects they find themselves as the only two in a position to save humanity from interdimensional beings. The drug allows them to travel and look through time and dimensions and the two use their new talents to fight off a mysterious demon that's slowly infecting their town. The film is completely wacky and a total oddball comedy horror film. If you are a fan of Coscarelli's previous work than you will most likely enjoy this film. It is definitely not for everyone but it is a personal favorite of mine and I hope some of you come to love it as much as I do.

That's it for this week's Netflix Fix, hopefully you found some good suggestions on here. Check back sometime next week for another five great horror films currently streaming.
